About Accra
Accra has been touted as the "Friendliest City" in Africa. A city cooled during the day by a regular flow of Sea breeze from the Atlantic Ocean, Accra enjoys temperatures between 21 to 35 degrees Celsius all the year-round. With the RAME meeting taking place in June, the rainy session, the temperature will be even more hospitable. It might be a good idea to bring "the brolly" (umbrella) along or purchase one from the hotel on arrival though.

Language
Ghana has one official language - English . Almost everyone on the street who is educated speaks English For our colleagues from Africa, Hausa is also widely spoken.

Cuisine
An extensive variety of cuisine is available representing the multicultural flavor of Ghana. Our collegues from the Middle East shouldn't have any dietary problems since half of the Accra population is Muslim. Fine dining, casual or family friendly restaurants are easily accessible throughout the city. Alcoholic beverages in bottles are available in most restaurants,(only keep off the local fiery stuff)

Shopping
As a cosmopolitan, capital coastal city, there is ample provision in Ghana to get some good samples of traditional and modern "African Clothing. There are unique areas all around the city for clothing, art, ceramics, furniture and much more waiting for you to discover.

Transportation
The normal advisable mode for moving around the city is by Taxi which is quite affordable. For the more daring and adventurous type, there is the local bus, popularly referred to as "Tro-tro" bus (literally Penny bus) operating all over the city. It is perfectly safe if you don't mind sometimes sharing your bus with a family carrying a couple of chickens

Night Life
Accra boasts of some of the best Nightlife in Africa. You can dance throughout all the night till morning breaks. Be careful though that you don't attempt to dance "the bump" with some Big Fat African Mama

Tipping
Tipping is allowed in most establishments especially after receiving good service. Visitors should however be wary of touts and others claiming to be collecting monies for charities. Standard tip in most restaurants is 50 pesewas.
