To ensure that Giff members are equipped with the
appropriate skills required for effective performance of their jobs,
Giff carries out frequent training programs for its members. GIFF's Training Capability has been enhanced by a Technical Aid in
the form of a "Train - the - Trainer" ( TOT) program from FIATA.
which enabled a team of FIATA International facilitators to train a
core of personnel to form the backbone for GIFF's training
Program. GIFF
offers a Diploma program at its classroom in Tema and online via
GIFF-eLearning Portal. Students accepted to the program may elect to
study via one or more of these learning modalities and may combine
classroom with online coursework if acceptable to the board of
education. (In such a case special fees are applicable) All courses
offered by the institute may be Web enhanced through the use of a
password-protected learning management system accessible through
GIFFonline portal, the environment through which online courses are
delivered. Web enhancements may include posting the course syllabus,
contact information and printable handouts; hosting online discussions;
and conducting assessments — all from within the digital classroom.
All courses are developed and
taught by GIFF faculty and are offered for certification under the
authority and accreditation of FIATA – the International Federation of
Freight Forwarders Association.

Application and admission
policies and procedures for GIFF-eLearning are the same as those for all
other programs offered by the institute but fees do vary. Students who
enroll in GIFF-eLearning courses must possess basic computer skills and
have regular access to appropriate computer hardware, software and
Internet connectivity in order to participate fully in coursework.
GIFF-eLearning students may
begin their study any quarter during the academic year. The online
learning environment is introduced via an online orientation course with
information about resources and opportunities, content on how to
navigate the online courses and videos on ordering textbooks and
performing other tasks.
While course registrations adhere to the normal GIFF calendar of
every 3-months, GIFF-eLearning classes are not held at set times.
However, students are expected to complete coursework according to a
schedule that stipulates due dates and asynchronous online sessions for
students and professors to meet, assess and critique work or expand upon
discussion board postings. Students in all GIFF courses are expected to
participate in all assignments, examinations and field trips or other
special activities as directed by the lecturer. Attendance is determined
by active login time for online courses and prompt classroom reporting
and participation in required activities.
Other services and resources include online course registration and
access to the institute’s library collections. Special online events are
hosted for GIFF-eLearning students concerning peer tutoring and career
services.
GIFF staff encourage students
to communicate and socialize with their peers via course discussions,
e-mail. The digital community provides a forum where GIFF students can
participate in college happenings and discussion through online
